Sewage treatment

Pupils of our school visited a waste water treatment plant as part of chemistry lessons. They learned that our treatment plant is one of the most modern in SK, how waste water is treated and how it is regularly checked. Hurrah, here we go! This is how we looked forward to the excursion to the wastewater treatment plant in Humenné. We had no idea that the “most fragrant” would not be there. However, when the aunt who accompanied us explained to us that the water that comes to them is sewage from the household, waste water from various industries and rainwater, we understood why the smell. We learned that our treatment plant is one of the most modern in Slovakia, as well as the method of wastewater treatment, as well as the fact that the purified water is regularly checked and meets all strict criteria. We were also warned not to throw wet towels, tampons and other hygiene items into the toilet, because they clog the sewers. We shouldn’t even throw food waste there, because that breeds rodents. This excursion was, in my opinion, very interesting and informative.
